Needs a visit
When it is not the right choice
- Anything that needs an examination — an ear, nose or throat cannot be examined over video, and endoscopy cannot be done remotely
- New hearing loss, especially sudden, which needs an examination and a hearing test promptly
- Breathing or swallowing difficulty, heavy bleeding, or a rapidly growing neck lump — these need in-person care without delay
- Children with suspected foreign bodies in the ear or nose
If a video consultation shows that an examination is needed, you will be told so plainly, and an in-person visit can be arranged.

Video consultations are conducted in line with the Telemedicine Practice Guidelines issued under the Indian Medical Council regulations. Where a prescription is appropriate it is issued after the consultation; some medicines cannot be prescribed remotely.

Can a first consultation with an ENT surgeon be done by video?+
Yes. The Telemedicine Practice Guidelines allow a first consultation by video. It works well when the question can be answered from your history and existing reports. If an examination or endoscopy is needed to answer it, you will be told so and an in-person visit arranged.
Can I get a second opinion on my scans by video?+
Yes, and this is the most common reason for a video consultation. Send the actual CT or MRI images (the disc or files), not only the radiologist’s report, along with any audiometry, sleep study or operative notes and a note of which operation was proposed.
Will I receive a prescription after a video consultation?+
Where medication is appropriate, a prescription is issued after the consultation. Under the guidelines some categories of medicine cannot be prescribed remotely, and in those cases an in-person visit is needed.
How do I share my reports before the call?+
When the clinic calls to confirm your slot they will explain how to send scans and reports securely. Have clear files or photographs of your reports ready, and keep the originals to hand during the call.
